While transportation planners in Missouri are seeking federal grant money to study the possibility of adding more Amtrak passenger train service within the state, Joplin is not included in those requests. That's a disappointment to some supporters who want to find a developer to renovate Joplin's historic Union Depot and put it back into use, perhaps even with train service some day. Several people brought up renewing train service at the depot during a Tuesday meeting at which reports on the feasibility of repairing the depot for new uses and the downtown's economic momentum to support the new venture were detailed.
