The city of Joplin will receive a state grant to help finish conducting an inventory of trees on city properties including parks, and to fund maintenance of some trees. Joplin was chosen again to receive a grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation's Community Conservation Program, according to an announcement from the city of Joplin. The grant will provide up to $25,400 for several purposes. Paul Bloomberg, parks and recreation director, said the funding will help pay to finish an inventory of trees in city parks, which gives the city a record of the locations of trees and what types, the condition of the tree at the time of the inventory, and assesses the trees for risks such as disease or damage.
